Confirming the forecast made months ago, in 2011, the port of Emden experienced the highest number of cars imported and exported ever. The annual result is an increase of 16% over the previous record in 2007 and 2010 ( 1.08 million each ). It wasn’t uncommon to see roll – on / roll - off ships simultaneously in the inner and outer harbour loading and unloading cars. Several launches were successfully implemented and new routes were added, such as the connection between Emden and Barcelona. To achieve this goal many tasks and challenges had to be mastered. It was possible thanks to the commitment of all those involved in the process and the staff. In this decade, 1.5 million is the goal to be achieved. This requires a further strengthening of the infrastructure and superstructure, such as the planned deepening of the outer harbour and the construction of ship berths.
